Invisalign Tips

0

Many people are turning to Invisalign over traditional braces due to their comfort and convenience. When braces are installed on the teeth they are permanently affixed. Conversely, Invisalign uses comfortable aligners that can be removed for cleaning and eating. Here are several tips to make living with Invisalign much easier.

Removing Invisalign Braces

Anybody that has worn Invisalign will tell you that removing them gets much easier with time. Always start at the back and gently lift the aligners gradually on each side while working toward the front. When the mouth is warm the plastic seems more soft and pliable. Therefore, never attempt to remove your Invisalign after a cold drink. It can also help if the inside of your mouth and fingers are dry.

Cleaning Your Braces

Knowing how to properly clean Invisalign braces will help minimize bacterial growth and prevent food particles from getting trapped. For best results, the user should perform certain tasks each day to ensure the trays are clean and fresh. For starters, it is essential to always practice good hygiene. The patient should brush and floss thoroughly prior to inserting the aligners. This prevents plaque and bacteria buildup.

Soaking your aligners in either a denture cleaning solution or baking soda mixture after each day of use will keep them hygienic. Some people recommend doing this in both the morning and evening hours. Most patients time this with their meals as they wouldn’t be wearing the trays anyway. The aligners can also be cleaned with an ultrasonic device. This is an easy cleaning method that is non-abrasive and effective.

Sleeping with Aligners

Having Invisalign in your mouth at night is important. Removing them can greatly diminish the possibility of success. Any orthodontic treatment works only if constant pressure is applied to the teeth. Although it may take several weeks to adjust, sleeping with your aligners in place will ultimately feel completely natural and pain-free.
