Invisalign FAQs

If you are considering Invisalign, it is likely that you have questions about how Invisalign works and the treatment process. You can use this set of questions to learn more about the Invisalign system and guide your discussion with your dentist. Schedule an appointment with an Invisalign Provider to learn how Invisalign can address your specific needs.

Q: I am currently wearing braces. Can I make the switch to Invisalign?

A: Yes, many patients who wear braces are able to wear Invisalign as well. Doctors are able to treat numerous patients with both braces and Invisalign. The clear braces can be removed but must be changed every two weeks. Contact your doctor to get more information on the best treatment plan for you.

Q: Since having my braces removed, my teeth have shifted. Can Invisalign fix this?

A: Yes, Invisalign can fix this common issue. There is no need to go back to braces because Invisalign is designed to move specific teeth at certain stages. It helps to correct overbites, underbites, crooked teeth, crossbites, crowded teeth and widely spaced teeth. A treatment plan will be determined by your doctor. One of the greatest benefits of Invisalign is that the braces are invisible so patients can forget about going back to the days of having their braces seen by everybody.

Q: I currently have veneers. Will Invisalign aligners work with them?

A: Yes, Invisalign can work with veneers as long as they are properly bonded to the tooth. There is no reason why it should not work, but it is best to consult your doctor to make sure that there are no problems with the veneers. Invisalign would be a better option than metal braces because the clear braces cannot damage the veneers. There is no risk of the polish of the veneers coming off.

Q: I currently have bridgework on several teeth. Will Invisalign still work?

A: It may be hard for Invisalign to work properly with bridgework because the clear braces are designed to move specific teeth at certain stages of the treatment. Since bridgework involves the connection of several teeth, Invisalign may not an effective option. However, contact your doctor to get more information on other treatment options.

Q: How do I find out if Invisalign is right for me?

A: Use the Doctor Locator on Invisalign.com to find an Invisalign Provider in your area.
